Description
Transmission tomography is frequently used for a quantitative characterization of the imaged tissue or material for speed of sound and attenuation profiles in 2D or 3D. For the reconstruction straight ray or Eikonal approximation based imaging may be used. However, these methods don’t include scattering, i.e. may reduce the quality and accuracy of the reconstructions and can’t detect scattering lying out of plane. To overcome these limitations, the full wave equation or paraxial approximation could be used. Due to less computational demands the paraxial approximation is fast enough to be applied for radiological diagnosis at the same day. The talk will give a short introduction to the field and state of art followed in the USCT group.
