Time-Series database technology in large control systems - Introduction and evaluation
by
Lecture to the master thesis from Sara Wehbi on the Topic Time-Series database technology in large control systems - Introduction and evaluation
With the evolution of applications that generate massive
amounts of timestamped data like IoT applications, financial trends, infrastructure and web services monitoring, a growing need emerged for a new database technology that can handle and process this huge amount of data with speed and precision.
To respond to this rising need, several time-series database (TSDB) technologies have emerged since 2015 and TSDB became the fastest-growing type of database in the enterprise in 2021 according to db-engine classification.
In this presentation, we will take a deeper look at the TSDB technology including the needs, the benefits, the main characteristics, a performance comparison with other types of databases and how it can be used as a robust and scalable solution for managing and archiving the operational data of large control systems.
