\n\n \n\nCall for Papers for the UERA Seminar on 22nd of February 2024\n\
n \n\nTopic of the International Seminar\n\nThe Urban Europe Research All
iance (UERA) conference 2024 focuses on urban sustainability transformatio
ns\, aiming at building ecosystem learnings\, through multiple experimenta
tion\,  collaboration and social learning.\n\nUrban sustainability transf
ormations require cultural change and learning on all levels of governance
and society. Responding to this need\, an experimental turn has occurred
since the 2000s in sustainability sciences (Parodi et al. 2023[1])\, bring
ing into life different forms of Urban Living Labs (ULLs)/real-world labs
 and real-world experimentation.\n\nReal-world experimentation is crucial i
n shaping knowledge to action for future sustainable and resilient cities.
Especially in urban contexts\, this practice enables urban actors to beco
me more responsive to the evolving needs of citizens and framing condition
s such as climate change and multiple crises. Achieving transformative cap
acity (Wolfram et al. 2019[2]) is essential for creating more livable and
thriving cities. It is essential to create ecosystems that promote researc
h\, policy\, and planning interaction\, learning\, and consideration of so
cio-economic outcomes. These ecosystems should also address governance and
institutional frameworks that enable citizens to take action and become e
mpowered. This capacity mainly involves enhancing urban agency\, integrati
ng learnings and experimentations into urban planning practice\, and foste
ring a broader culture of sustainability in urban societies.\n\nThere are
some key questions that need to be addressed in order to learn through exp
eriments and effectively transfer those learnings into the realm of urban
planning and social practices. For instance\, what kind of capacities are
required for ecosystem learning and how can researchers contribute to thei
r development? Additionally\, how can research and urban societies engage
in long-term hybrid research and learning environments\, despite facing th
e challenges of 'projectification'? Lastly\, how can we ensure that the le
arnings are efficiently and sustainably transferred?\n\n \n\nThe purpose
of the UERA seminar is to facilitate capacity building and transdisciplina
ry collaboration\, experimentation\, and learning at both urban and local
scales. This is aimed at promoting sustainable transformations across vari
ous fields\, such as sustainability and resilience\, accessibility and con
 nectivity\, urban governance\, participation and equity\, circular urban r
egenerative economies\, energy transition\, and human-centered smart citie
s.\n\nAbstracts and forms of contribution:\n\nContributions may consider r
esearch and practice of urban governance\, diversity\, inclusiveness\, jus
 tice\, transformative knowledge\, co-creation\, learning\, innovation\, ur
ban collaboration\, cooperation\, and institutionalization of coalitions o
f urban actors.\n\nWe welcome abstracts (300 words) contributing to urban
sustainability research and practice and the development of new skills and
competencies enhancing transformative capacity. The seminar aims to contr
ibute to the European transfer of knowledge and experience and to identify
and discuss the need for capacity building in research and practice. \n\n
Besides presentations\, we welcome posters that will be shown during the w
hole event and highlighted in a specific poster session. \n\nDeadline for
abstracts (both for presentations and posters): 12th of January 2024 (fina
l deadline!)\n\nThe UERA seminar is considered an open platform for resear
chers to connect on the topic of sustainable urban transition in broad ter
ms. It welcomes researchers to share and disseminate their results dealing
with questions of sustainable urban transitions\, energy transitions\, mo
 bility transitions - 15-minute city\, accessibility\, and connectivity - a
nd regenerative circular urban economies and processes. \n\nFinal papers c
an be published after the conference in the Special Issue of the Journal U
rban Transformations  ‘On the Other Side of the Green City: Critical Ex
perimentations and Learnings’ (submission will be opened after the confe
rence)\n\nResearch findings and the collection of the papers will contribu
te to exchange\, sharing and expanding knowledge and practical examples fo
r creating a positive planetary sustainable urban development in the EU co
 untries and beyond.\n\n \n\n\n[1] Parodi\, Oliver\; Steglich\, Anja\; Byl
