Description

Experiments that use self-triggered radio detection need accurate knowledge of their local radio background. This project aims to develop a general measurement setup to examine this background and provide information for site evaluation. The setup has to be sensitive over a wide range of frequencies, it has to be accurate and it needs to be built in a way to minimize its own radio emissions.
The current setup consists of a butterfly antenna which is connected to an oscilloscope for DAQ. The oscilloscope is connected to a laptop to save the data and perform a first analysis. A shielded box ensures minimal radio emission and basic protection against the elements. A battery pack in the box provides the power supply.
Currently the setup can measure and save traces with custom parameters. The saved data can then be visualized and a basic analysis is provided. In addition the trigger rate can be measured. All of this can be controlled over a basic GUI.
During ARENA the hardware will be shown and the current capabilities will be presented by automatically measuring the background and producing first analysis plots, e.g. traces, spectra or waterfall diagrams.
