Jonas Sievers, doctoral researcher at IPE, will present an overview about his research on the transition of the energy system.
Abstract:
Modern power systems increasingly rely on volatile renewable energy sources. As a result, balancing electricity generation and demand becomes more challenging, while price fluctuations and grid congestion may increase. Energy management systems can mitigate these effects by coordinating battery systems to shift energy across time, reduce costs, and lower emissions. Yet, their effectiveness remains constrained by the limited data available at individual sites.
This presentation explores how combining neural networks with collaborative learning can leverage distributed energy data for forecasting, battery scheduling, and flexibility quantification.
