A free workshop on research software development tools and best practices.
To make the most out of the workshop, it is recommended to join an in-person classroom. This is what we offer at KIT for the Autumn 2026 edition of the Code Refinery workshop.
If you cannot join in person, you can still follow online!
Topics for the whole two weeks (see more on the workshop page):
- Introduction to version control with Git (browsing, committing, merging, working locally, inspecting history, sharing work, practical advice and what to avoid)
- collaborative version control with git (with github/gitlab) (code reviews, forks, pull and merge requests)
- Reproducible research
- Social coding and open software
- How to document your research software
- Responsible use of Generative AI in assisted coding
- Automated Testing
- Modular code development
For best communication, please also register at the central page for the event here.
If you want only to join online, register from the central workshop page here.
If you wish to join us in person with coffee, tea and biscuits, and have the possibility to discuss, get quick support and learn from fellow students, please register to this event.
