RF2.0 Webinar #4: Adaptive Compression Point Control: Boosting Solid-State Amplifier Efficiency at BESSY II
Solid-state RF amplifiers in particle accelerators often operate well below their specified rated output power, where their efficiency decreases significantly.
The Adaptive Compression Point Control (ACPC) concept developed by Cryoelectra and HZB within the RF2.0 project addresses this challenge by automatically adapting
the amplifier bias point to the required RF output power, without requiring manual adjustment of low-level amplifier parameters.
The concept was demonstrated by retrofitting a 500 MHz, 75 kW CRE-331D solid-state amplifier at HZB.
The webinar will present a system overview of an RF solid state amplifier, the ACPC concept, the demonstrator and the measurement results,
followed by an outlook on further testing and potential applications to other accelerator RF systems.
