Description

Abstract:

Entsorgungs- und Wirtschaftsbetrieb Landau (EWL) has the aim to make Landau wastewater plant more energy self-sufficient. Currently, two combined heat and power (CHP) plants are coupled at the wastewater plant, but CHPs switch off and on frequently, leading to the aging of the machine. For further optimizing the operating of the wastewater plant, a lithium-ion battery storage system can be utilized to mitigate the excessive electricity produced by constantly-running power plants and later feed in the wastewater plant when the wastewater plant requires a high electricity demand.

This thesis investigated a hybrid energy system at Landau wastewater cleaning plant composing of CHP plant, battery, grid, biogas, as well as different treatment processes in the wastewater plant in the electrical domain, heat domain and chemical domain. To optimize Landau wastewater cleaning plant a model in MATLAB/Simulink is proposed,  considering CHP power generation, battery energy storage and grid injection. It found out the energy allocation of these three energy suppliers. Furthermore, it analyses the total cost saving with battery energy storage system (BESS) and without BESS for various battery capacities in three different aspects:1) battery lifetime 2) economic cost including battery storage system cost, electricity grid interconnection cost and additional infeed fuel cost 3) environmental cost, namely the CO2  emission cost. This talk focuses on the optimization of a CHP-BESS System at Landau wastewater cleaning plant. It describes a CHP-BESS integrated hybrid energy system and the simulation methodology is given, to develop two operation strategies among three energy supply systems, namely CHP, battery and grid. Finally, the cost function of the system is given in terms of economic and environmental aspects and the results are discussed.
