Description

Final presentation of the Master Thesis of Marius Eckert on 3-Dimensional Direct Flux Sensing applying the Integrated Sensor Array in Automotive Traction Applications

Abstract:
This master’s thesis introduces a multifunctional sensor concept for automotive traction applications. It encompasses a direct flux sensing technique suitable for stator flux linkage observation and advanced control strategies such as Deadbeat Flux Vector Control (DBFC). The concept proves suitable even at standstill and low rotational speeds. The proposed Integrated Sensor Array (ISA), consisting of six high-resolution flux sensors, is positioned at the tips of the stator lamination teeth between the end windings. Different sensor types, measurement directions, as well as axial and radial sensor positions are
considered. 3D Hall sensors simultaneously measure the stray flux density at each sensor location in tangential, axial, and radial directions. The aim of this work is to analyze the influence of these parameters on the measured stray flux density in a Electrically Excited Synchronous Machine (EESM). Furthermore, methods for estimating the stator flux linkage and rotor angle based on ISA measurements are presented. Additional measurable quantities, such as rotor demagnetization and temperature, are also investigated. Experimental results demonstrate that sensor orientation and placement significantly affect
the harmonic content and magnitude of the measured flux density. Moreover, the potential for precise determination of rotor angle and stator flux linkage angle is successfully shown.
