Talk RT1 Plenary 1

Speaker

Britta Redlich

Description

Photon science at DESY is aiming to decode matter by exploring its structure and dynamics with the highest spatial and temporal resolution. This talk provides an overview of DESY’s photon science facilities, including the synchrotron radiation source PETRA III and free-electron laser research infrastructures FLASH and the European XFEL. These facilities support a broad range of scientific disciplines—from structural biology and materials science to chemistry, physics, and energy research.
The presentation will highlight recent scientific breakthroughs enabled by DESY’s photon sources, discuss current technological developments (such as the PETRA IV upgrade), and outline the strategic vision for the future of photon science at DESY. Emphasis will also be placed on interdisciplinary collaboration, data science integration, and opportunities for users across academia and industry.
