5th Science Workshop of the Program MML
Johann-Gottfried-Tulla-Hörsaal
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
The 5th Science Workshop of the Program “From Matter to Materials and Life” (MML) within the Research Field "Helmholtz Matter" will be an in-presence meeting at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). It will take place in the Johann-Gottfried-Tulla-Hörsaal of KIT (Englerstraße 11, 76131 Karlsruhe), October 20-22, 2025.
Tackling key societal challenges by exploring the structure, dynamics, and function of matter, materials, and the basis of life from fundamental science toward application using, developing, and operating large-scale user facilities." This research is performed in close collaboration with users from academia and industry and closely connected to the user operation of a wide range of research infrastructures, encompassing photon, neutron, and ion sources, as well as high-magnetic field facilities and high-power lasers.
The main purpose of the workshop is to discuss forefront science done at our facilities, with the aim to strengthen/establish cooperations between research groups at the participating centers and profit from the complementary possibilities offered by our various probes. Moreover, selected examples for the further development of our large-scale facilities will be presented and information about the latest developments will be provided.
The scientific program, covering the most recent achievements and highlights, will consist of review and contributed talks, science slams, as well as poster presentations. For the contributed talks, dedicated parallel sessions will provide also the opportunity to discuss our current research with particular focus on cross-center activities. These parallel sessions are organized following our three research topics:
- MML-Matter: Dynamics, Mechanisms, and Control
- MML-Materials: Fundamentals, Function, and Processes
- MML-Life: Building Blocks of Life – Structure and Function
Moreover, opportunities will be provided to present and discuss the progress of our cross-cutting activities, which are pursued with colleagues from our neighboring research programs and research fields. Besides the experts in these field, we particularly encourage young scientists to join the workshop and present their results.
